ECCA Meets Baroness Pitkeathley, Deputy Speaker in the House of Lords - Press Release
On 23 May members of the English Community Care Association (ECCA), met Baroness Pitkeathley OBE, Labour Life Peer and Deputy Speaker in the House of Lords.
Held at the offices of specialist healthcare lawyers, RadcliffesLeBrasseur in Westminster, the lunch with Baroness Pitkeathley, held under Chatham House rules, was an excellent opportunity for a discussion about the role and recognition of the carer. During a lively debate particular interest was expressed in the role of the carer in relation to care home staff and the need for both parties to work together. Reference to reliable ‘one stop shop’ sources of information was also made and opportunities identified within the new health and social care White Paper.
Baroness Pitkeathley is an influential figure within Parliament and is also very engaged with the care home sector. She is currently Vice President of Carers UK and holds a number of other Presidential roles in voluntary sector groups.
This meeting was part of a series of ECCA Parliamentary lunches in association with RadcliffesLe Brasseur. In the coming months members of ECCA will have the opportunity to meet Rt Hon Kevin Barron MP, Sir Derek Wanless, and Lord Sutherland of Houndwood.
